The Story Behind This Creative Polyhedron Paperweight
This seal is composed of 26 squares and triangles of different sizes, 14 of which are engraved with regular script inscription. The original seal is carved from coal. The material is called coal jade. It is a variant of lignite. It is mainly composed of low-grade plants and some humus mixed coal composed of the remains of higher plants.
A total of 47 characters. The coal seal is the seal with the most printed faces and the largest number of characters so far in China. And the coal seal has advanced the history of regular scripts into printing by more than 400 years.
The content of the seal are mainly used for official documents and general letters. The polyhedral seal makes this Dugu Xin who had several jobs very convenient to use.
The owner of the seal was one of the Eight Pillar Kingdoms in the Western Wei Dynasty and the upper-class figure of the Xianbei Tribe, Dugu Xin, whose original name was Dugu Ruyuan.
Not only did Dugu Xin had achieved great success in his own warfare, but his daughters were also very famous. He had 7 daughters, of which the eldest daughter married Emperor Ming of the Northern Zhou Dynasty and became the Queen of Zhou Mingjing. The seventh daughter married Yang Jian, the founding emperor of the Sui Dynasty. His fourth daughter was married to the father of the founding emperor of the Tang Dynasty.
Therefore, the Tang Dynasty did not have too many psychological barriers to absorb the essence of all parties and accept foreign cultures. This became one of the prerequisites for open society and ethnic equality in the Sui and Tang Dynasties.
The seal was found by a young student in 1981. At the beginning, this legendary seal was kept in the country museum until it was transferred to the Shanxi Provincial History Museum for centralized storage in July 1990.
